What's New in InterMapper® 4.3?
InterMapper 4.3.4 was released on 23 September 2005. Its new features are listed below. Download Page.
- NT Services Monitoring InterMapper can now monitor NT services that are running on a remote Windows computer as a single device. A probe can monitor a single NT service, or monitor a set of NT services that operate together as a single application. This facility requires that the InterMapper server itself be running on a Windows platform.
- Exporting and Importing Map Data InterMapper now allows extensive changes to a map by importing data, or exporting and re-importing.
- InterMapper can export information about a map's devices to a tab-delimited file.

InterMapper can import a tab-delimited file, adding new devices to a map (and optionally creating a new map).

"Modify" style imports are also supported. You can export a map, edit the data in a systematic way (say, in a spreadsheet or database), then re-import the data to update the existing devices.

InterMapper can delete a list of devices specified by a tab-delimited file.

New "improbe:" URL scheme allows you to specify all the parameters of an InterMapper probe in a single text description

- Geographic Importing InterMapper lets you place benchmarks on a map that specify known points of latitude and longitude. You can then import a list of devices along with their latitude and longitude: the devices will be placed in the proper point on the map.
- Improved icon display There is a wide variety of icons available, with a new icon chooser window that makes it easier to make attractive maps.
- A set of small Cisco icons (32x32 pixels) is now included with the program. The set will automatically be placed in the Custom Icons folder.

Cisco's Network Topology Icons (available from http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/503/2.html) have been converted to work with InterMapper.

Greyscale icons will be tinted properly for all states/colors: green, yellow, orange, or red.

You can now preview the selected state of the selected icon in the icon chooser window by clicking on it in the preview pane.

Reload button in the icon chooser re-downloads the selected icon to update its appearance.

You can import a set of icons by dragging their folder of image files to the icon chooser. This will create a new icon set of those images.

- Interfaces Window shows the settings and the state of the ports on a switch or router, and lets you hide or show those interfaces on the map.
- WISPerMapper is a copy of InterMapper with additional probes to monitor the equipment used by Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and other fixed wireless broadband installations. The following probes are bundled into the current InterMapper downloadable binary file:

Alvarion LinkBlaster; Canopy 45 mbps backhaul; Engenius/Senao CB3; MikroTik radios and routers; Orthogon 45 mbps backhaul; Proxim AP-600, -700, -200, -4000, and Tsunami; Redline AN-50; smartBridges airBridge and airPoint; Trango M900S; Tranzeo 5 GHz access points and CPE.
- Improved Canopy probes for AP's and SM's. These show more information including re-registration count, last/average RSSI and jitter, and other statistics.
- Simplified installation and license registration process. A couple clicks, and you're on the air.
- InterMapper Traditional is now in the InterMapper Extras folder on the downloadable .dmg file. To use it, drag it to your hard drive as usual.
- InterMapper 4.3 is not supported on the Classic MacOS (System 7.5 through MacOS 9.2).

Enhancements to take advantage of new features of the MacOS X 10.4 ("Tiger") operating system

InterMapper now runs on and has separate builds for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4)
and FreeBSD 5.

You can now delete old data from a strip chart by opening the Chart Options > Data tab. Click the Delete button and specify a date and time, and InterMapper will remove all the data previous to that date/time.

You can now import a sound by clicking the Import Sound... button when the Configure Notifier window is open.

Added Reload Probes menu item to the Edit Menu. This makes it easier to edit a custom probe, then reload it to check its effect.

Added Attach To menu item to the Network menu. This lets you link two devices together manually. To do this, select an item on a map, then choose Attach To..., and then click another device. A line will be drawn between the two devices. (This is equivalent to selecting two devices, and choosing "Add Link".)

Added Add Text... menu item to the Network menu. This adds an object to the map, with the specified text.

Host Resources probe uses UCD-SNMP-MIB to get load averages, cpu utilization data on systems running net-snmp.

Probe for Barracuda Spam Firewall allows you to monitor the input and output queues, latency, CPU and disk utilization of the firewall.

InterMapper now supports SASL authentication (Anonymous and MD-5) for authenticated SMTP mail messages and for InterMapper Remote logins.

GIF images are now usable in Traditional and Remote. GIFs are not yet supported in the web server. If the web server is important to your operation, we recommend you continue to use PNG and/or JPEG images.

Many enhancements to the scripting language to support new custom probes, including unpack() and substr() functions and long strings.

Many bug fixes
