InterMapper and WISPerMapper, a version that has been designed for Wireless ISPs (WISPs), both monitor network equipment and alert the network manager when there are problems. Both packages are cross-platform applications, running identically on Windows, MacOS X, Unix, and various Linux distributions.

InterMapper 4.4 has the following new features:

  • SNMPv3 capability. This gives greater security to network managers whose equipment supports it.

  • New wireless probes to show the operational health of Alvarion BreezeNet, Canopy backhaul, Orthogon Spectra, Proxim Tsunami and LAN Access point, smartBridges Nexus line, Trango, Tranzeo, and WaveRider gear.

  • Syslog notifier that will send a syslog message when devices fail

  • Group notifiers allow the network manager to send notifications to different sets of individuals when there are problems.

  • A number of other features.

"Our customers have been waiting for SNMPv3," says Rich Brown, Dartware's president. "They are very pleased that they can be more secure by encrypting the monitoring traffic with SNMPv3."

InterMapper and WISPerMapper are available immediately. Both are priced by the number of devices being monitored. The software is a free upgrade for customers with current maintenance contracts.
