Dartware Launches InterMapper 4.2
Adds "right-click" access to device tools, timed acknowledgements and new probe support
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hanover, New Hampshire, June 3, 2004: Dartware, a trailblazer in the development of graphical and intuitive real-time network monitoring tools, has expanded the feature set of its signature software. Working from extensive customer feedback, InterMapper® now makes it even easier to monitor the health of the network at a glance.
Network managers rely on InterMapper to provide a real-time view of their network. Using SNMP and other techniques, InterMapper creates graphical network maps, providing a real-time view of traffic flows and device status.
"Right Click" Access to Third-Party Tools
InterMapper 4.2 extends the ability to view detailed information about devices by letting the network manager launch third-party administrative or configuration tools directly from the network map's icons.
This comes in handy for users who want easy access to a vendor's configuration program. After adding the tool to InterMapper's list, they simply right-click the device's icon, choose the configuration tool from the menu, the application launches and it's immediately available for use.
Enhanced Acknowledgements / Timed Acknowledgements
When a device goes down, network managers can "acknowledge" that they know the device is down and that a fix is underway. Once acknowledged, the icon color switches from blinking red to a steady blue, and alarm notifications are suspended.
"If I'm working on getting a downed device back on-line, the acknowledgements let our support folks know I'm aware of the problem and I'm working to fix it. It also makes it easy for me to spot any new outages." said Frank Knapp of AlarmsPro.
New in version 4.2, acknowledgements can be timed for non-emergency situations. When a device will be down for scheduled maintenance, a network manager can set a timed acknowledgement for the device. Notifications will be blocked for the expected outage period, and automatically re-enabled after that time.
New Probes
InterMapper 4.2 brings out two new probes that let an administrator see more detail on certain devices.
Cisco IOS-based Wireless Access Points The probe shows the MAC address of all the clients associated with the access point as well as their signal strength.
TCP Port blocked Probe This provides a level of network security against open ports. InterMapper continually attempts to connect to the specified port. If the connection succeeds, InterMapper raises an alarm, indicating that the port is open.
InterMapper 4.2 is priced by the number of devices being monitored. This version is a free upgrade for customers whose subscription is current.
